Experienced motorists know the design and operational features of the original Niva. When planning tuning, the following design features of the Niva should be taken into account:
- a short base can cause a rollover when performing sharp maneuvers at high speed;
- low power (83 hp) is offset by good maneuverability;
- there is a four-wheel drive, supplemented by a differential lock, several lower gears.
The main problem of the classical model is the patency rate. It is he who is improved when the Niva is adapted to the conditions of hunting and fishing.
Body reinforcement
Modification of the body part is necessary for additional protection of the main elements from external influences. Preliminary, an anti-corrosion layer is applied to the bottom, the condition of the paint is checked. Then you need to start body work.
Tuning car design:
- Strengthening spars. This is a mandatory event for the five-door model. A metal sheet 3 mm thick is welded onto their surface.
- Installation of power steps. For their manufacture, round pipes are used. They perform the function of the outer frame and protect the car from damage to the side parts.
- Manufacture of reinforced front and side bumpers. The first is the installation of a winch and a device for cutting small marks.

Suspension modification
It is recommended to install larger wheels (235/75 R 15) to improve flotation and traction. It is also necessary to improve the depreciation qualities of the machine by installing additional elements. This will reduce shaking during difficult off-road sections.
List of recommended changes:
- increase in ground clearance up to 4.5 cm;
- be sure to strengthen the lateral jet thrust;
- the rear suspension scheme is made three-link, A-shaped;
- installation of rear springs and modern polyurethane spacers;
- installation of dual-type shock absorbers on the rear and front suspension;
- Requires an inversion limiter for the front wheels.
Additionally, you can strengthen the bracket of the base (main) shock absorber.
Metal body kit and interior tuning
During hunting and fishing trips on the Niva, you will need to take a lot of additional cargo. The small size of the trunk of a three-door model will not be able to accommodate it. Therefore, a special expeditionary model is necessarily installed on the roof of the car. It will allow you to take all the necessary equipment.
You can also do the following types of tuning:
- additional lighting devices;
- installation of more comfortable driver and front passenger seats;
- replacing the rear seats with new ones with a folding function to increase the useful volume of the trunk;
- navigation lamp, as the factory interior lighting will be missed in the dark.
Transmission modification will require more time and effort. It is performed only with the full tuning of the Niva for hunting and fishing. You can install a reinforced clutch, new steering knuckles, improve engine performance by adjusting or boring it. But these works will entail a significant increase in the cost of tuning.
